Past M.A.R.E.S. Meetings from 2007 MARES meetings in 2007
November 17, 2007 Holiday Shopping Spree
Our November 17 Holiday Shopping Spree and Luncheon was
such fun! We kept bumping into each other at a variety of
tack stores and then had a wonderful meal at Biaggi’s in Deer
Park. Twelve MARES ate, laughed and got to know each other
better...just a lovely time! Plus, bargains were found by all!
Thanks to those who made the drive.
October 13, 2007 The Gaited Horse at Bill Haacks, The Liberty Farm
The October meeting at Liberty
Farm was informative and
fun! Bill Haack gave a great
lecture on the various gaited
horses and then showed us
several breeds. Because he
had taped the horses’ legs in
different colors of vetwrap,
we were able to clearly see
the different footfalls.
Here are a few photos of MARES members trying out the gaited horses. Larger photos will be in the Gallery soon.
September 22, 2007 Business Meeting at Falmouth Farm
Happy 10th Anniversary MARES Club!
The first meeting of our 10th year was a great success, with 30 attending for our Business Meeting and a wonderful tour of Falmouth Farm. Many thanks to Steve Sawle, owner, and Theresa Teske, Farm Manager (and MARES member). The weather was beautiful and we had lots of fun experiencing this lovely facility. The facility is new, having just been completed in April of this year. It's situated on 706 acres of land, has a 100' x 225' indoor arena with a sand/rubber mulch footing and a 150' x 225' outdoor arena. The indoor arena is fully heated and has three 25' blade span fans for the warmer weather! The aisle of the stable, composed of rubber pavers, is tilted toward the center where there are floor drains. Most of the stalls are 12' x 12' and have special stall doors which allow the horse to stick his head out, while providing the option of bars for those horses who do not do well with that much freedom. The clubhouse in the equestrian center was quite impressive and even had bar stools made from old saddles.
Dues will remain at $25 for adult members and $10 for junior members. These funds are used for speaker honoraria, administrative expenses, association dues, etc.. There was a discussion about using a portion of our dues to fund a HELP kitty, which people would be able to apply for financial aid when making a decision whether to proceed with colic surgery for their horse or euthanasia. More thought and discussion will follow and your input is strongly desired and valued. Email Marti at mcoursin@gmail.com to comment.
Members may put classified ads free of charge on the website and in the newsletter. We'd love to post photos of your horse. MARES members should send photos of their horse to the webmaster, Pamela Gesbeck, at pamela@maresclub.com. A MARES members gallery of horse photos will be added soon to the website.
